"I have been a witness and these pictures are my testimony.
The events I recorded should not be forgotten
and must not be repeated."
- James Nachtwey
Brittany resides in Indianapolis where, in addition to freelance jobs and her philanthropic photography business, she devotes much of her time to humanitarian causes, such as being a keynote speaker and advocate for sexual violence awareness. Her ultimate goal is to combine her creative reporting skills, social entrepreneurship skills and speaking skills with women’s advocacy work. Already utilizing her crafts in three of the world's poorest countries, she’s now determined more than ever to pursue ventures that provide women with platforms that encourage and empower them to stand up and share their stories with the world. Brittany will be the first one to tell you—she’s attempting to live a brave life, not a safe one.
Brittany’s Testimony:
I have faith in a photograph's power to communicate on a level that can incite awareness and evoke emotion, and it is with that ability in mind that I create photographs. I see myself as an international journalist, specifically focusing on the stories that go untold; being the voice to the voiceless and the disregarded. I aspire to master the art of storytelling through photographs, video and written language. I strive to tell stories that can support humanitarian causes and social movements.
I have had some very eye-opening life experiences that have led me to have a rare sense of empathy for the world around me. The notion to make this world a better place is an idea that was instilled in me at a young age. It has since become an integral part of my makeup, a key component of who I am and what I stand for. I have since made a conscious effort to immerse myself in knowledge pertaining to the realities of the world outside of my own; to mentally and physically pull myself out of the bubble or what some people refer to as “the Western mindset.” You will see this in the volunteer work that I have listed on my resume.
My driving force behind being a journalist, more specifically a photojournalist, is to bring these realities to the forefront for the rest of the world. This passion of making the world a better place consumes my every day thoughts and actions. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” Pursuing a career in international reporting is my opportunity to break my own confines. It is my desire that the stories I produce will compel others to care more about the problems influencing the rest of the world and ultimately themselves.
It is my hope that you will recognize my sincere commitment, passion and respect for this profession. For inquiries, please contact me directly at: 317.446.9333 | [email protected]
